Role Purpose
The Process and Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for enhancing production efficiency and quality by analyzing, refining, and optimizing processes. This role involves creating robust work instructions, conducting Measurement System Analysis (MSA) studies, and ensuring production aligns with customer demand. The engineer focuses on waste reduction, cost-effective production, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement to ensure long-term operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Optimization
- Analyze and improve production processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and align with Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Work Instructions and Documentation
- Develop, implement, and maintain accurate work instructions and production documentation, ensuring they are regularly updated for consistency.
- Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
- Conduct MSA studies to validate measurement systems and provide reliable data for process improvement.
- Customer Demand Fulfillment
- Optimize production processes to meet customer demand efficiently, ensuring high-quality and on-time delivery.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives
- Identify and lead continuous improvement projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve sustainable operational goals.
- Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving
- Lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions to resolve production issues, minimizing disruptions and improving quality.
- Manufacturing Structure Updates
- Review and update manufacturing structures and routings in the IFS system.
- Project Management
- Organize, plan, and oversee the progress of production engineering projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Effective Handover to Production
- Ensure a seamless transition from Manufacturing Engineering to Production with clear protocols and documentation.
- Engineering Change Request (ECR) Coordination
- Manage ECRs to ensure smooth implementation of changes in production processes.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to support process changes and improvement initiatives effectively.
Person Specifications
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience (3+ years) in process improvement, manufacturing engineering, or continuous improvement in a production environment.
- Practical experience in value stream mapping (VSM), Kaizen events, and waste elimination techniques.
- Familiarity with MSA and statistical process control (SPC) for assessing process capability.
- Expertise in developing and standardizing work instructions.
- Knowledge of statistical software like Minitab for data analysis.
Desirable:
- Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), or similar methodologies.
Skills and Competencies
