Job Description

An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced General Manager with a strong Food & Beverage background to lead a flagship 5-star hotel in East Africa. The role is crucial in driving business strategy, ensuring service excellence, and overseeing multiple operations, particularly with new openings and projects in the pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the hotel’s business strategy and achieve performance goals.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hotel operations to maintain high service standards.
  • Monitor product quality and ensure operational excellence.
  • Oversee the timely delivery of capital projects for asset maintenance.
  • Promote teamwork and best practice sharing between departments.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Lead the operation in the absence of the Managing Director.
  • Manage hotel budgets, forecasts, and financial results.
  • Optimize sales and profitability while controlling expenses.
  • Maintain hotel records and reports in compliance with policies.
  • Oversee marketing strategies to ensure alignment with market demands.
  • Engage with guests and handle escalated customer service concerns.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop Department Heads and Managers.
  • Implement performance management strategies for all direct reports.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth among staff.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Management qualification from a recognized hotel school or university.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in senior management at a luxury 5-star hotel or resort.
  • Food & Beverage Expertise: Strong background in F&B operations, including new concept launches and projects.
  • Operational Knowledge: Solid understanding of Rooms, F&B, and hotel functions.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in Middle East or Africa is mandatory.
  • Cultural Awareness: Ability to work with a diverse workforce and engage with owner representatives.
  • Customer Focus: Proven success in improving guest satisfaction and profitability.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Languages: Business English proficiency is required; European languages (Italian, Danish, Dutch, French) preferred.
  • Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to manage large operations and effectively communicate across teams.
